With Helene’s death toll nearing 160, searchers have widened their search area, using helicopters to get past washed-out bridges and hiking through wilderness to reach isolated homes.

At least 132 deaths in six Southeastern states have been attributed to Hurricane Helene — a number that climbed Monday as a clearer picture emerged of the damage it inflicted on an area stretching from Florida’s Gulf Coast northward to the Appalachian Mountains in Virginia.
ALSO… President Biden got defensive Monday during a press conference when he was pressed by a reporter on who was in command over the weekend to direct hurricane response since he was at his beach home in Delaware.
President Joe Biden is expected to travel to North Carolina on Wednesday to observe the damage.
Rev. Franklin Graham, CEO of Samaritan's Purse joined former President Donald Trump in Valdosta, Georgia, on Monday to support those devastated by Hurricane Helene.

In an afternoon news conference yesterday….SC Gov Henry McMaster said The Helene-related death toll in South Carolina has now risen to 25
Meanwhile…Death toll mounts in North Carolina as electric and cell service has made it difficult to rescue many who need help. Officials in the Tarheel state report 38 deaths confirmed with more expected.
Duke Energy says they have never seen a storm like this in the company’s history. Helene left behind catastrophic damage across the Carolinas service territory, particularly in upstate South Carolina and western North Carolina. We have the latest updates from across the Carolinas.
